RemoveMacAI: turn off Apple Intelligence and free up 12GB on your Mac

You commented MAC — here's everything from the video.

RemoveMacAI is a free, open-source tool that turns off Apple Intelligence on macOS 27, removes its downloaded models from your disk, and stops macOS downloading them again. Everything it changes can be undone with one command.

Set it up

  1. Check your Mac

It works on Apple silicon Macs running macOS 27 only. Earlier versions of macOS are not supported.

  2. See what it would do first

A dry run shows the changes without applying them.

    removemacai off --dry-run
  3. Run it

Paste the one-line installer into Terminal. It downloads the latest release, verifies its checksum and runs it. Nothing is installed.

    curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/omlahore/RemoveMacAI/main/install.sh | bash
  4. Approve the profile

It opens System Settings to install a configuration profile. macOS requires you to approve it yourself.

  5. Changed your mind?

One command restores the previous settings. macOS downloads the models again when a feature needs them.

    removemacai revert

Good to know

  • It turns Siri off too, along with Writing Tools, Genmoji, Image Playground and the summaries. Use --keep to leave specific features on.
  • Apps that rely on Apple's on-device models stop working until you revert.
  • System Integrity Protection stays enabled and no system files are modified directly.
  • The 12GB figure is AppleInsider's; your own number may differ. Run `removemacai status` to see the model sizes on your Mac.
  • The Storage screen may keep listing Apple Intelligence for a while: macOS deletes the files on its own schedule.
  • Always read a script before piping it into your shell. Facts are from the README on 6 October 2026.
